The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on a spending spree on Facebook ahead of the crucial elections to the Capital, with its ad expenditure on the virtual medium being 628 per cent more than that of the Delhi unit of the Congress and two wings of the Aam Adam Party combined in the last seven days alone.
The BJP’s Delhi unit is not just leading in election-related ads but advertisements overall, including commercials, where it has spent Rs 83,31,641 in the last seven days. The Aam Aadmi Party, which spends on ads from two accounts, stands at Rs 5,75,399 and Rs 3,05,227 separately. Meanwhile the Delhi Unit of the Indian National Congress in the last seven days spent Rs 4,45,475 on its Facebook ads to reach out to Delhi voters ahead of the February 5 election. Together, the parties have coughed up an amount of Rs 13,26,101 on Facebook ads in the last seven days alone.

There has also been a massive shift in Facebook’s location-based targeted ads recently. In the last seven days, Delhi has remained the most targeted location for ads— a whopping Rs 1,27,01,861 was spent on ads beamed in Delhi. To put things into context, the second runner-up was Maharashtra, which grabbed Facebook ads for its locations the last seven days that cost Rs 18,51,237 — one-sixth the expenditure and interest.
With AI-generated meme wars gaining traction, the Facebook ad campaign has more content every day to be fed with, appealing to different age brackets. If that was not enough, Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari’s election campaign song ‘Bahane Nahi Badlav Chahien, Delhi Mein BJP Sarkar Chahiye’ (need change not excuses, Delhi requires BJP government) has added groove and reason for more online push by the BJP, which has posted 197 ads in the last seven days alone and is raring to go.
With each passing day, the tempo is likely to be more competitive.
