Nina Dobrev, who is popular for her role in The Vampire Diaries, recently spoke about the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. In a video she shared on Instagram, the 36-year-old actress opened up about experiencing survivor’s guilt after her house, located “close to one of the fires,” survived the tragedy while “so many others were not so lucky.”

Nina shared the post on January 18, where she revealed evacuating her home on her birthday on January 9. She continued, “I have been absolutely sick to my stomach with all the destruction and devastation that these fires have caused and displaced so many families. My heart is broken for all the people affected by these wildfires.” Revealing that she evacuated her house on her birthday, Nina mentioned that it was “definitely not how I planned on spending my birthday” and thanked her fans for their birthday wishes.

Further, in the video, the 36-year-old actress urged everyone to donate. She added, “I don’t know about you, but I have been feeling survivor’s guilt.” Nina mentioned that shelter homes have more than enough clothes for the displaced people and noted that what everyone needs now is “financial” help. “What people really need right now is financial aid to help them get back on their feet and start rebuilding their lives and their homes,” said the actress, adding, “The Pacific Palisades, the Altadena-Pasadena community in particular, needs it the most.”

Nina mentioned that she has added a link to a Google Spreadsheet on her Instagram bio with a list of families who lost their homes to the wildfires. Sharing that for her birthday this year, she donated to those families, the Vampire Diaries actress urged her fans to do the same. “It would be my birthday wish and I would love it if you could do the same, small or big donations, whatever is within your means,” she said.

Furthermore, Nina expressed, “I put myself in the shoes of all these people whose homes have burned down to the ground with their belongings, memories, everything that made them feel safe in the world now gone, and their insurance dropped them,” and added, “For some of them, the level of tragedy is immeasurable and it’s really hard to comprehend.”

In the caption, Nina wrote, “The devastation in LA is immeasurable and heartbreaking. This is my plea to help. For my birthday, my only wish this year is that you help a family in need.”
