For Mickey 17’s press conference, Robert Pattinson visited South Korea and he delighted the crowd by attempting the popular finger heart gesture.

After the global success of Parasite, director Bong Joon-ho is back with Mickey 17, a sci-fi adventure full of humour, humanity and emotion. As the film gears up for its February release, the filmmaker kickstarted the first official press conference in South Korea with lead actor Robert Pattinson. This was Pattinson’s first trip to Korea and he delighted the crowd by attempting the popular finger heart gesture. Although his effort was a bit awkward, The Batman star quickly made it better by making a hand heart with Bong Joon-ho, which was loved by fans.

In a clip circulating online, Pattinson looked excited to join Bong for the film’s promotion. When the host asked them to make a good pose, Pattinson first tried making the classic finger hearts. However, after his attempt didn’t go as planned, Bong decided to make a simple hand heart. But it was actually Pattinson who suggested Bong do the pose together, which is a popular gesture among Korean celebrities. Despite the initial mishap, the internet is loving Pattinson’s goofy nature.

During the press conference, Robert Pattinson sharing his reason behind signing Micky 17 said, “You don’t find roles like this ever, especially on this scale. It’s a massive movie and I just love the fact that Bong manages to have his sense of humour very very prominent and such a huge movie. I mean the amount of times you turn up on set and it would look like this giant Star Wars looking thing and then we are doing this really almost silly scenes, like really some of the scenes are so funny in it that you just don’t get it in sci-fi movies. It’s a surprisingly brave Bong.”

Revealing why he chose Pattinson for the role, Bong Jo Hoon started by praising his performances in American films like Good Time and The Lighthouse. Bong then explained that Pattinson is a talented actor who has always caught his attention. The character required multiple qualities, like a shy and pitiful side as well as a confident and unpredictable charm. The filmmaker believed that Pattinson could show all these sides very well. The casting process went smoothly because Bong had him in mind from the start.

The official synopsis read, “The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job to die, for a living.”

Written and directed by Bong Joon Ho, Mickey 17 stars Robert Pattinson, alongside Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo. Based on Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel, Mickey 7, the movie is set to premiere at the Berlinale in February. It will then release in South Korea on February 28, followed by a worldwide release on March 7.
