The much-anticipated Coldplay concerts in Mumbai had music lovers buzzing with excitement and singer Jasleen Royal made history as the first Indian artist to open for the legendary band. Performing on January 18 and 19 at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, Jasleen set the stage for Coldplay and is slated to do so again on January 21, as well as for their upcoming Ahmedabad concert. While many attendees praised her performance, not everyone was on the same page, with some criticising her as a mismatch for the opening act.

Amid the divided opinions, actress and Bigg Boss OTT star Uorfi Javed has come forward to show support for the singer.

Hours before Coldplay’s third Mumbai concert, Uorfi shared her thoughts on Instagram. She wrote, “I really believe in uplifting and supporting our own talent. I want to say that it’s a BIG DEAL that Jasleen got to share the stage with a band like Coldplay… The fact that Jasleen Royal was given this opportunity itself (without any backing) proves her hard work and talent.”

Uorfi didn’t stop there, adding, “She is such a gifted artist. We have all loved her work all these years. Let’s encourage and applaud our artists… I’ve got your back, girl.”

While Uorfi’s words highlighted the singer’s achievements and urged fans to celebrate local talent, social media reactions painted a different picture. A section of social media users didn’t hold back their criticism of Jasleen’s live performances at the concerts.

One user wrote, “Jasleen Royal is the most pathetic opening act I’ve ever witnessed. Can’t believe she got to open for Coldplay. Not only was she an absolute mismatch for the vibe, but also she was offbeat, hitting the wrong notes. It felt like a child was given a mic and didn’t know what to do with it.”

Another added, “Her recorded songs are great, but the live performance and stage presence were just completely off.”

Despite the criticism, Jasleen Royal remains a well-loved artist in the Indian music scene, known for soulful hits like Din Shagna Da (Phillauri), Love You Zindagi (Dear Zindagi), and the heartwarming Ranjha (Shershaah).
