Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo is winning hearts for his incredible gesture after he was targeted with ‘Messi’ chants. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner featured during Al Nassr’s away league clash against Al Taawoun on January 17.
During the fixture, the home fans poked fun at Ronaldo, chanting Lionel Messi’s name. The Portuguese icon, however, didn’t take the bait. Instead, he flashed a smile towards the Al Taawoun supporters before signalling a thumbs-up in their direction. An Al Nassr fan page has shared a video of Ronaldo’s wholesome reaction on X (formerly Twitter). “Cristiano’s response to the fans who were chanting Messi’s name,” the post read.

Cristiano Ronaldo started up top for Al Nassr during their Saudi Pro League game against Al Taawoun on Friday. The Faris Najd hoped to win their second fixture on the bounce to narrow the point gap with league leaders Al Hilal.
Al Taawoun, however, ruined Al Nassr’s plans, taking the lead in the first half. Aymeric Laporte scored the equaliser in the 64th minute as the match was drawn 1-1. Ronaldo and company had registered 19 shots in the game but just couldn’t find the nets for a second time.
Before the 1-1 draw, Cristiano Ronaldo bagged five goals in his last four league games. After failing to score on the night, the Portuguese forward was captured with his hands on the hips and taking a deep breath.
Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami faced Club Americas on January 19. The Argentine grabbed the limelight at the Allegiant Stadium after inspiring The Herons to a 3-2 victory on penalties. During the match, Messi scored Inter Miami’s first goal in the 34th minute before sparking significant discussion with his celebration.
The 37-year-old was reportedly targeted with ‘boos’ by the home crowd during the friendly fixture. This led Messi to signal a three-finger gesture towards fans which represented the number of times Argentina won the FIFA World Cup. He then turned his back to the crowd to show the fans his iconic number 10 jersey. An Argentina fan page shared a clip of Messi’s celebration on X.
Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are in the twilight of their careers. Ronaldo exited Europe right after the 2022 World Cup with Messi leaving the continent a year later. The iconic duo share a whopping 12 Ballon d’Ors between them apart from several other individual and team accolades. Messi and Ronaldo will now have their eyes set on winning the league with their respective clubs this season, something which both have failed to do since quitting Europe.
